Sunflowers
The ultimate boho flower! Bright and cheerful, sunflowers bring a touch of sunshine to your bouquet. Their large, vibrant blooms add a rustic and carefree feel to your arrangement, with other flowers or on their own. making them perfect for a boho look. You’ll be surprised at the sunflower variety once you research these.
Peonies
I looooove peonies – dramatic, romantic and whimsical – the perfect trio for a boho arrangement. Bonus is their sweet fragrance and tons of color choices. Take advantage of their beautiful blooms as they emerge in spring because their growing season subsides with the summer heat. You’ll want to wait until fall to order from here, but there are some beautiful artificial varieties as well!
Dahlias
I recently discovered dahlias after snatching some up on a Target clearance shelf. I threw the bulbs in the ground and didn’t expect much but WOW!!! If they are slow to bloom, don’t give up hope – the payoff is huge once they open. (Speaking of huge, consider buying some flower stake supports because those giant blooms can get heavy and topple over.) Tons of colors, from deep burgundy to bright orange, make them a versatile choice for a boho bouquet.
Butterfly bush
I don’t see these in many bouquet lists, butterfly bush one of my favorites for a couple of reasons – they are easy to grow in even the harshest conditions and they add great height and interest to a bouquet. They attract pollinators to your garden as well! If their size is too much for your growing space, I recently learned of this more compact option – pugster butterfly bush.
Eucalyptus
While not a flower, eucalyptus in fresh or dried form is an essential greenery that complements any boho bouquet. Its silvery-green leaves add texture and height to your arrangement. Eucalyptus also smells amazing – a pleasant, subtle fragrance that provides freshness without overwhelming your senses.
Blanket Flower
Similar in look to sunflowers but more delicate. When you want that warm, bright look without the powerful statement of a sunflower, blanket flower is the perfect choice. The more you cut these, the more they produce!
Butterfly milkweed
For similar reasons as the butterfly bush, I love butterfly milkweed for my bouquets. A host plant for the monarch, in addition to beautiful orange flowers for your bouquet, you can watch the fascinating monarch life cycle happening right in your backyard. These grow best from seed. If you have lots of predators, consider getting an enclosed habitat (but do your research on raising monarchs first or you could become the ultimate predator).
Zinnia
Last, but not least, I love zinnia is bouquets. I prefer perennials, but I always plant this annual because the flowers just keep on giving – another one where the more you clip, the more they grow. There is every variety you could desire – from colors to heights to petal type! Similar to dahlias but a bit easier to maintain.
